Burna Boy Shatters African Spotify Record With 47.3 Million Monthly Listeners
Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has made history by breaking the all-time record for the most monthly listeners by an African artist on Spotify.
The 'African Giant' hitmaker currently boasts 47.3 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous record of 46.58 million held by South African star Tyla.
The massive streaming numbers are largely fueled by his World Cup anthem 'Dai Dai' with Shakira, which recently topped the Spotify Global Top Songs chart.
This achievement makes Burna Boy the first African artist to reach number one on the chart since Wizkid's 2016 debut with Drake on 'One Dance.' With his current trajectory, Burna Boy is on the verge of becoming the first African artist to hit 50 million monthly listeners on the platform.
