Sunday Tribune spoke with some artistes on why they combine acting with business, below are their responses:

Bunmi Nelson, Sexy Choco:

I design fabrics and make beads and accessories. Newly joined to my chains of businesses is catering service. But strictly outdoor catering and on orders only. All under the umbrella of my company, House of Euphoria

Acting alone can’t pay my bills, maybe in the nearest future when we start earning like our Hollywood counterparts, I can quit business for acting. It’s about passion and making money. Don’t forget that all things are expedient. To remain on top of my game and stay afloat in this river of fame, money must continue to roll in from all angles.

Ope Olusanya:

I run a unisex boutique, where I sell clothes, shoes, bags, fashion accessories, makeup and other fashion stuffs. I chose to go into this because artistes and every other person want to look nice all times, dream which I know I can make come true for people as I also love looking good and trendy. I just love to be fashionable always. I love looking great and comfortable in what I wear which I can also sell to people. Fashion is part of the entertainment world and once I’m not busy with movies, I get busy with fashion which is what I sell and it gives me joy and also fetches me money for extra comfort I need.

Joy Egbunu:

I run home delivery cuisine service. The business has always been on my mind since I was little. Besides, I’m a very good cook. A lot of people told me to use my natural God-given talent to make some extra cash. That was how Jeez Cuisine came into existence. I love both cooking and acting passionately, it’s hard to choose between them but cooking gives me satisfaction

Arike Akinyanju:

I’m into event management, my outfit is known as Best Eventful. I love that aspect of business because it gives me joy when guests are well received by hostesses at an event and entertained in a very well organised setting. I deal with decorations and hostesses, especially.

Event planning is occasional for me. I get to do the business once in a while. It is not something that comes often. So, it is very easy for me to balance it.

Linda Adedeji:

Aside acting, I have a hair salon plus where we sell all types of weavons, natural hairs, designer perfumes, costumes jewellery and accessories, and I have a paint shop as well, though my hubby owns the shop, I manage it for him. Well I am into other businesses because I believe as an artiste you need to have something to fall back on, since every day is not Christmas. If I’m not called for acting for several months, I won’t be financially down because I will surely make money in my business. I believe acting is not an everyday thing, even those that are rave of the moment do stay home for months without any call for acting, I know many of them like that. If they don’t have other source of income it will surely affect everything around them financially. If you have billions today and stop making more money, you will be soon become penniless. I will advice my colleagues who base their income on acting alone to try and add other businesses to it, with that you will be yourself any day, anytime.
