REPRIEVE AS MCSN APPOINTS MIV SOLE REPLICATOR
MCSN is poised to rid the country of copyright infringement.
Recently in Lagos, it granted sole replicating rights to Magnet Integrated Ventures Limited (MIV).
According to Orits Wiliki, Chairman Musical Collection Society of Nigeria (MCSN): “We are happy to be signing today a memorandum of understanding with MIV. This is a company, whose owners have voluntarily declared that they would not replicate any work without written license from the copyright owners. That is the reason we have established this relationship with them.”
By virtue of the MOU, MIV has become the preferred plant to be contracted by MCSN for the replication of its works. Orits Wiliki used the opportunity to call on other stakeholders to register with the Nigerian Copyright Commission and called on government to ban the importation of CDs.
Reacting, MD, MIV Mr. Emeka Akeh thanked MCSN for the opportunity and described piracy as the number one scourge of the industry. He disclosed that by December, MIV would have attained a replication capacity of 20 replicating lines.
Meanwhile, while making closing remarks, Mike Ayilaran, MD MCSN, disclosed that other replicating plants that were not licensed ran the risk of persecution and would face the wrath of the law.
It will be recalled that recently, following an Antom Pillar order it secured from the Federal High Court in Lagos, MCSN had raided the premises of various retail outlets including Nu Metro Stores at The Palms, Lagos, and impounded works in its repertoire.
