Finally, Laura Nduoyo in India for medical treatment
succour finally came the way of ace media practitioner and columnist, Laura Nduoyo who was bedridden by a life-threatening illness since the past one year as she successful travelled to India on March 19, 2012, to undergo corrective surgery.
Her predicament was due to an unsuccessful and mismanaged surgery in a private hospital in Nigeria which requires urgent surgery in India. Earlier in January 2012 an appeal for fund was launched to raise N10m (Ten million naira) to save her life. Fortunately, within weeks of the appeal, well-meaning Nigerians came to her rescue and the needed sum was raised.
Before departing Nigeria for India, Laura, hitherto hospitalized at the Abuja University Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada and Garki Hospital, where medical experts had been battling to stabilize her condition, thanked Nigerians for their kind donation towards her medication. She also thanked her media colleagues for bringing her plight to the front burner. In the same vein, she expressed her gratitude to the Minister of Youths Development and Sports, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, who played a pivotal role in the bid to save her life.
According to Chris Kehinde Nwandu, whose CKN Foundation, assisted immensely in raising the funds, Nduoyo is expected to remain in India for about a month so that she will be given the best of attention and treatment.
Nduoyo, a former journalist with defunct Hearts Magazine, The Spectator and National Mirror, is a Mass Communication graduate of University of Lagos.
