"We Only Had An Introduction" – Olakunle Churchill Reacts To Reports Of Rosy Meruer's Divorce Filing

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nigerian philanthropist Olakunle Churchill, has broken his silence, amid reports of his actress wife, Rosy Meruer's filing for a divorce.

Reports making the rounds have suggested that all is not well between the couple, as Rosy Meruer has reportedly filed for divorce from Churchill on April 20, 2026.

According to the reports, Meurer allegedly filed a divorce due to Olakunle Churchill's relationship with his ex-wife Tonto Dikeh following their son, King Andre's 10th birthday some months ago.

Breaking his silence since the reports have surfaced, Olakunle Churchill stated that the marriage between him and Meurer was not legally binded.

According to him they only had an introduction without a court marriage, stressing that any divorce filing is "baseless."

Churchill also maintained that the issue between him and his ex-wife Tonto Dikeh concerns them alone, and they have both agreed to forgive each other.

He also countered the perception that Rosy Meurer had always been behind him, acknowledging the criticisms she was subjected to; however, he strongly believes that without her, somebody else would have faced the same fate.

He wrote:
"There was no legally recognized marriage between Rosy and me. We only had an introduction and no court marriage so the idea of a ‘divorce’ is baseless. Individuals without experience are advising Rosy wrongly. Entering a relationship with a man who already has a child and existing issues with the child’s mother requires understanding that such matters are between the two parties involved

If Tonto offended anyone, it should be me alone and if I offended anyone, it should be Tonto. However, we have both chosen to forgive each other. I believe she has changed and is now in a better place. I do not agree with the narrative that Rosy “stood by me” in a way that should now be exaggerated. While I acknowledge that she faced public criticism, it is important to state that if she had not been there, someone else would have occupied that position in my life. Issues within my relationship should have been left for me to address, including defending her publicly when necessary."
