Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) Explains Reason Behind Lack Of Investigation Over Simi's Old Tweets

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has explained the reason behind the lack of investigation into the old tweets of Nigerian singer Simi.

The agency, through its Executive Secretary Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, expatiated on the issue of Simi, and what must be done to initiate formal proceedings, during the Morning Brief on Channels Television

She admitted that the agency is well informed about Simi's tweets, and is tasked with the duty of commencing a preliminary investigation on the case, however, a lack of witness is going to pose a stumbling block in the long run.

"As for the Simi case, we cannot act like we have not seen these things. We have a duty to at least commence a preliminary investigation."

"The truth of the matter is that it’s going to be very difficult to prosecute the lady without a survivor being present."

According to Vivour-Adeniyi, while the agency is at alert – previous victims of sexual abuse, sexual assault or defilement related to the tweets can come forward in order to provide evidence, and make the investigation commence through the right process.

"A victim of whatever it is, sexual abuse, sexual assault, or defilement should step forward. This is to start the process, document, and ensure that their statement is taken. Then we will know where we are going on the matter."

The Nigerian Voice recalls that singer Simi, who recently condemned the act of raping women in response to the allegations made by Tiktoker Mirabel, became a subject of public ridicule as some of her old tweets on X (formerly Twitter) were dug up, and have since caused uproar on the microblogging platform.

Simi, however, issued a clarification statement on X on Sunday, February 22, stating that her tweets were never from a place of perversion, and the deletion of some of those tweets were done by her team due to the sensitive nature of it for her family.

She further emphasized her unwavering stance against rape, stressing that she has been doing that before fame.
