How Amaka Igwe Died With Her Numerous Visions

In her usual manner, late renowned film producer, writer, entrepreneur and director, Amaka Igwe nee Isaac Ene before her death, picked captivating issues from the scripture, summarizes them and then posts on her social media network page, Facebook for public discourse.

Even while the news of her death lasted, many who would better not be described as doubting Thomas due to how much she was loved and appreciated by them, and having sent her last post on April 26, 2014 with much life attached to it (post), could not believe until two days after when she could not renew her usual wall page post and comments.

Followers of Amaka Igwe's Godly affirmation and Christian insightful post on Facebook had also been left in wonderland over her last post which titled, “Is He Cheating?.” It was however buttressed from Marian Liautaud's Fidelity Check.

Basically, few of her admirers are yet to wake from the realities of her demise, due to the unimaginable side of her tragic death. Stealthily enough, death came like a thief and plucked life out of this cerebral Nollywood producer.

The most disappointing side of it all is that Maka Igwe died with her vision which would have repositioned the Igbo film industry to an enviable height. While she battled for a return to life, she also fought the fight of setting a pace for the Igbo film industry, which she and others in the past had condemned over the state of neglect it receives from a cable station in Africa, both the failure to create a strong channel for airplay of Igbo movies.

To cut her vision short, this respected Nollywood icon reportedly died of asthmatic attack on Monday, April 28, thereby casting a pall of gloom on the nation's movie industry.

The sad incident occurred in Enugu, where she had gone for the pre-production of a new Igbo sitcom, in company of her husband.
According to reports, she suffered an asthmatic attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial interventions had failed. She, however, passed on before getting to the hospital.

Her death came with the most asunder of all times, even as she died and left a surviving family. She really paid her dues in the motion picture industry, having arrived late 20's when Nollywood was yet struggling from strength to strength. She joined the struggle while watching it grow in lips and bounds. Part of the sacrifices made to what the 20 years industry is today may not have been complete without mentioning the name, Amaka Igwe.

Interestingly, even with positives eulogies her death had received since the news of her demise came to be, what could not be swept off from public domain is the scrutiny buzz to her death.

Left in the lips of her mourners and fans are, “Was she actually asthmatic, and for how long?” In a way of being informed with the trend of her death, the deceased's surviving husband, Mr. Charles Igwe could not be reached to ascertain how long the wife had battled the ailment, but a source from the family who spoke to us on the ground of anonymity said, “Not too many people knew she was asthmatic. And of course, you don't expect her going about telling people of her predicaments. Life has its own cross that everyone must learn to carry,” our source said.

From what led to her death, an expert emphasized that “Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction and bronchospasm. Asthma attacks are triggered by a number of environmental and genetic interactions and usually come unannounced”.

“Possibly, she suffered from this chronic inflammatory disease. Her death also may have been caused by the environment she found herself. But, I'm in great doubt that it could be that serious since she had been the one going on locations to shoot her movies,” he enthuses.
Known as a trailblazer, she is survived by her husband of 21 years, Charles Igwe, three children, an aged mother and siblings.
