NFC: 2013 SO FAR THUS FAR: FEBRUARY IN FOCUS

Source: Wale Applause/Nollywoodgists.com

Obviously, 2013 is one interesting year already. From the first day of the year thus far, it has been thrilling all the way with several happenings in the entertainment scene. February wasn't any lesser than January as it held its own fair share of disappointments, thrills and suspense.

Although it one month that took too many of our talents, but it doesn't change the fact that several interesting activities also took place during the course of the 28 days.

Here is a list of the few remarkable happenings in February 2013:

WIZZY FINALLY LEAVES E.M.E:

Contrary to opinion that it started all at once, it can now be brought to the notice of the general public that the discord between both parties has been brewing since September 2012, but all hell let loose in February when Wizzy finally announced his departure from the label we have always known him with.

I always expected a break up looking at the trend of things, but one would have expected this to happen on a ground of mutual consent. Enough has already been said about this break up in the media which saw Wizzy float his own record label Star boy.

After his departure from E.M.E, wizzy has since released 2 videos which I must say fall short of the conventional Wizzy video, but I think the young man deserves and needs more time and irrespective of what happens, Wizkid remains a Star boy.

K CEE DROPS OFFICIAL SINGLE LIMPOPO:

judging by the track title, one would have thought this track to be a nursery rhyme, but I can boldly say that if not the best, Limpopo is one of the best songs that have been released in 2013 thus far. Produced by fast rising Del B at a tempo of 125bpm, this song is just right for all playlists and dance floors.

Since the breakup of the defunct KCEE PRESH, little has been heard of his partner Presh, but K CEE has not stopped what we always know him to do. We await a superb video to further enact the hit this song just made.

IYANYA FINALLY DROPS HIS MUCH ANTICIPATED ALBUM:

after all said and done, Iyanya Mbuk finally drops his much expected album Iyanya Versus Desire IVD with the monster hit Kukere. The album which dropped in stores and online is one album yet to achieve its befitting commercial success, although the three monster hits off the album Flavour, Your waist and Kukere already paid bills.

This album to me is a little short of all expectations even though it has several A list acts featured. I personally expected at least a song off the album to make at least a close commercial success alongside the previous, but I guess I have to wait a little longer.

THE DEATHS OF OUR OWN GOLDIE, THE VETERAN JUSTICE ESIRI AND THE FAST RISING DAMMY DAMOTCHE:

February is one month that will not be forgotten very easily in the entertainment scene. This was one month that saw the end of our hardworking and relentless Goldie, the veteran Justice Esisi and the fast rising Dammy Damotche.

I wouldn't want to say much about these ugly incidents, as it would be spraying pepper on bullet wounds, my prayer is that may God give the family, friends and fans fortitude to bear the losses.

D'BANJ PERFORMED AT THE CLOSING CEREMONY OF AFRICAN CUP OF NATIONS:

our very own D'banj was the highlight of event at the closing ceremony of the just concluded AFCON 2013 where Nigeria was crowned champions of Africa. D'banj's performance, although short lived was topnotch, indeed a master piece. This performance will go down as one of his best ever.

The fusion, the energy, the connection brought Africa alive in a couple minutes. It could only have been Dapo Oyebanjo though. Thumbs up bro for making the country and continent proud.

TIWA SAVAGE'S ENGAGEMENT TO HER MANAGER TEE BILLZ:

the eve of St. Valentine's day saw the diva Tiwa Savage get a much deserved and much overdue ring from her manager and fiancé Tee Billz. This is one news that brought smile to the faces of her family, friends and fans. Both lovebirds have always denied their relationship, but the kele kele love was brought to a halt as Tee Billz laid the foundation to finally tie the knot. Congratulations to both lovebirds as I look forward to my VIP invitation card. Come to think of it, what if Tiwa Savage had told Tee Billz publicly that she needed some time to think about it. LOL

DAREY ART ALADE HELD AFRICA DOWN WITH HIS LOVE LIKE A MOVIE CONCERT:

Darey Art Alade put together a concert which many still say is the best to heave been held on the continent in February. This event was put together by Darey and his label Soul music in celebration of St. Valentine 's Day. Prior to this event, not a lot has been said about him in the media, but he was successful in making Africa stand still.

highlight of the event is the cohosting of the Red carpet with the world famous Kim Kardashian. Although many frown at the exorbitant price that saw tiwa make a less than an hour visit to Nigeria, but kudos to Darey for this. many have promised a great show, only few have delivered.

OFFICIAL RELEASE OF BANKY W'S R&BW ALBUM:

although the Star boy WIzzy was missing on the album, this did not stop the R&BW album from being a world class. The month of February saw Banky W, chairman Emezy release his much anticipated album into market with a breath taking concert.

The album did not fall short of the Banky W we all know. Banky is indeed one of the R&B kings in the world. Kudos to you bro for this one, I guess only a few persons must have expected less. This year is indeed the YEAR OF RnB.

DAVIDO RELEASED HIS FIRST OFFICIAL SINGLE OF THE YEAR:

Mr. David Controversial Adeleke released his first official single into the media and just like the track title, the song caused GOBE. Just immediately after the release of the song, news made the rounds that Davido 'stole' the song from an act named Password.

David who is very much used and in love with controversy did not deny this allegation, but only took to twitter to post a picture of himself, Shizzy the HKN producer and the artiste named Password with a caption, “Me, Shizzy and Password thinking about how much we can make from this GOBE”. Kudos to the PR stunt that sold Password to us. It won't come as a surprise the morning we wake to be notified of his endorsement as a part of the HKN gang

SHAE MIX FROM SOUTH AFRICA MAKES WEST AFRICA DEBUT:

Shae Mix, a South African acts who is signed on Nodough2Modough, a record label with its root in South Africa made his West African debut with Nigeria in focus.

All around the continent, Africans are not taking it lightly. It's a world take over, and its indeed a big one. Shae Mix who is one act doing very well in South Africa with an 18-track album in stores and online release 3 official singles for his introduction into West Africa. He is also currently in studio with Miguel, this is indeed the Africa take over.
