Sometimes A Joke Is Just A Joke – Toke Makinwa Clarifies Viral Comment On Relationships
Popular media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has addressed the backlash surrounding a recent comment she made on her podcast.
The former OAP had jokingly stated that if she dated a man earning N5,000, she would expect him to give her N3,000 or she would ghost him.
Following the backlash generated from her take, Makinwa, via her Instagram page, clarified that the comment was made in jest and was not a serious reflection of her views on love and relationships. She emphasized that she has never believed that a person's bank account should determine the value of a relationship.
She added that she respects and believes in two people who genuinely love each other, work hard, and build a life together, regardless of their financial situation. She stressed that partnership, mutual respect, and growing together matter far more than money.
She wrote:
"I've seen a comment I made jokingly being circulated and interpreted as a serious reflection of how I view love and relationships.
For clarity, I have never believed that a person's bank account should measure love or how much a man can give financially. Sometimes a joke is a joke, banter, tongue-in-cheek."
