Don't Diminish Celebrities – Deyemi Okanlawon Speaks On Public Scrutiny
Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has addressed the public's tendency to judge and diminish celebrities without understanding their struggles.
Speaking during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast, he expressed sadness over how people often criticize those in the spotlight.
The Yoruba actor noted that many people have no idea what challenges celebrities face behind the scenes, yet they are quick to come up with negative remarks. He described the use of the term "yeyebrities" as an example of such dismissal. He warned that whatever one diminishes in somebody else's life, they can never achieve themselves.
He further emphasized that celebrities also go through personal struggles, despite how polished their lives may appear online.
He said:
"I see people who have no idea what the challenge is that people in the spotlight are facing. They just come up with a lot of things. It's sad to see."
"People even call celebrities 'yeyebrities' because I'm like, whatever you diminish in somebody else's life, you can never achieve."
"So, let's just pray that in your lineage, nobody finds their way into the spotlight, because if that happens, then you've opened up the door for such things to be said about them."
