By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nollywood actress and producer Bolaji Ogunmola, has opened up about a stereotype she previously faced in her early days as an actress in the movie industry.

Speaking in an interview with media personality JayOnAir, the YouTube producer revealed that due to her skin colour, she was constantly typecasted as a "side chick" In movies, an act she didn't like.

She explained that the period was when light-skinned actors were dominating,, and filmmakers and producers just stereotyped others then.

She further opened up on her business beyond acting, disclosing that she began building her business, which is different from the 9-5. She asserted that she was in no way going to delve into a 9-5 business, but will rather continue to build businesses to gain multiple streams of income.

Bolaji Ogunmola also reminsced on her career, stating that it has not been easy, but she has kept on pushing, despite the odds and difficulty to succeed.

She said:
“It was almost like they wanted to put me in a box. I am dark-skinned. There was a time when light-skinned people were reigning, and they told me I was very curvy and tried to limit me to ‘side chick’ roles. That went on for a while, and I didn’t like it”,

I just wanted my life to have meaning at that time. I am not somebody who likes to sit at home; I wanted to do something. I never wanted to do 9–5. I will not do 9–5—it’s not just me. Shoutout to people who do it, I applaud you. But for me, I am business-savvy like that

My journey has been crazy, but I have just kept at it."
