Nollywood veterans, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Sola Sobowale, have emerged recipients of the Industry Merit Award at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The award ceremony which is organized to honour the creativity of African movies, had its 12th edition on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

Both movie icons were honoured with the award as a recognition of their pivotal contributions and roles in propagating the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood.

Giving her speech while receiving the award, Sola Sobowale appreciated her Maker, dedicating her award to her children and colleagues.

"I want to specially thank God Almighty for keeping till this day to have this. I thank my children. Thank you to all my colleagues. I thank my fans because without you ‘Ko si Sola’ (there’s no Sola) It truly is an honour."

Kanayo O. Kanayo on his part, received his award, while condemning the Xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
