"Acne Almost Made Me Quit Music" - Rapper Cheque
Nigerian singer and rapper, Akanbi Bamidele Brett, popularly known as Cheque, has opened up on a traumatic period in his career, and how he almost stopped making music.
The 'History' crooner made the revelation in a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, sharing how he had acne some years ago, and its effect on his self esteem.
According to Cheque, the acne made him uncomfortable, particularly after his hit song 'Zoom' which got him a record label deal. He shared how the thought of interviews and being in the front of cameras made him unsettled, which led him to purchase a make-up that almost disfigured his skin.
He further emphasized that the experience made him consider quitting music, and also affected his ability to stay in front of the camera.
He said:
"I struggled with acne years back. It was terrible. My desperation to cure it led me to buy a makeup that almost disfigured my face. It was embarrassing. I almost quit music. I couldn’t even approach women then.
“After my breakthrough song ‘Zoom’ and I got signed by a record label, it dawned on me that I would be attending interviews and would be in front of cameras. I am a perfectionist. So, I went to get a makeup from a store to clear but instead it almost disfigured my face. I woke up one morning and realised that my whole face has been damaged."
