"We Need More Emotionally Driven Stories" - Efe Irele Advises Filmmakers
Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Efe Irele, has dropped an important advice for her colleagues.
The movie star, while speaking in an interview with Saturday Beats, she commended the efforts of filmmakers, praising them for pushing the bar higher.
She however, noted that Nollywood needs more emotionally driven stories, without discrediting those who focus on commercial success.
Additionally, she explained that due to the rise of streaming platforms, many individuals don't really go to the cinemas anymore. She urged her colleagues to start creating compelling stories that broke emotions in viewers because that's the new demand.
She said:
“I must commend a lot of filmmakers right now; we’re all pushing the bar higher. We definitely need more emotionally driven stories, but we also can’t dismiss those who focus on commercial success. At the end of the day, the industry has to generate money to keep going,
Not everyone wants to go to the cinemas anymore, especially with streaming taking over. We have to make movies that make people laugh, unwind, and enjoy themselves, because that’s what a lot of viewers are looking for."
