Independent Investigative Panel Set Up To Probe Bobrisky's Alleged N15M Bribery
The Nigerian government represented by The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has created an independent investigative panel to probe into the alleged bribery involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky and the staff of correctional service.
Recall that self-acclaimed activist VeryDarkMan released a leaked audio recording of Bobrisky allegedly revealing how he paid the sum of 15 million Naira for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop the money laundering charge against him. The recording further suggested that Bobrisky did not spend his six-month prison term in prison but in an apartment close to the prison through the influence of his godfather and the controller general of prison.
However, Bobrisky, VeryDarkMan and the chairman of the EFCC, with officials of the prison, were present at the National Assembly Complex on Monday at the request of the House of Representatives.
The Minister of Interior, following up with the investigation of the alleged crimes of Bobrisky, has explained the reason for setting up the independent Investigative panel; he stated that it was "necessary to sanitize the personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Services, NCoS."
Furthermore, The Minister affirmed that the investigative panel, headed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalena Ajani, would make sure to enforce transparency and accountability within the service.
“We want to really reform the correctional service. Your core responsibility is to investigate specific allegations of corruption, torture, and mistreatment of inmates by correctional officers, especially the immediate one on Bobrisky, which I expect to be out in two weeks.
"We will rely on your legal guidance to be sure that whatever we do is in line with the law of the landi. We will rely on you to be able to come up with a way forward, as well as facts that would be made public to Nigerians. I want to say this very clearly, nobody will be shielded. Nobody, no matter how highly placed, will be shielded.”
