Omah Lay Recounts Prison Experience, Describes It As Life Changing

Popular Nigerian singer, Omah Lay, has opened up on his time in prison and the impact it had on him afterwards.

The Nigerian Voice recalls that Omah Lay and Tems were arrested and charged to court in Uganda on the grounds of breaking social distancing regulations, by appearing at a concert in Speke Resort, Kampala, on December 12, 2020, despite COVID-19 social distancing regulations.

Omah Lay revisited his time in prison during a recent interview with Amazon Music, where he opened up on how prison changed him and made freedom have more meaning to him.

The singer revealed that since his prison term, he has ensured that freedom is a key part in his songs, as he has now understood the importance of freedom.

He said:
”After being in that cell for three days, I just love my freedom so much now that I fight for it with every record… I don’t want to give Uganda so much credit for locking me up, but that shifted my perspective about freedom.”
