By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Popular Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa has shed light on her academic challenges while growing up.

The actress went down memory lane at the launch of her new perfume, where she exalted her mother for always being there and for the motivation despite her poor academic performance while growing up.

She then narrated a story of her academic challenge while growing up in which she came last among her peers and she tried to change her position by using T-pex. She said;

"I remember an incident that somewhat shaped my life. I was always at the bottom of my class. And there was this one time, I think there were maybe 52 in class, and I came 52. A part of me then thought I was smart so I bought a T-pex and then changed the five and left the two. I was going home to show my parents like after always being at the bottom of the class I finally came second.”

She stated that her action was easily detected by her mum, who instantly found out after just taking one glance at her report card. She said;

"One look at the report card and my mum beat the hell out of me. She did not spare my behind. She was frustrated and really gave it to me.”

Following this, the actress narrated that her mother kept motivating her to read, stating that she can come out better if only she read and pays rapt attention to details. She said;

"I remember one night that I was really ashamed and really down, this was the same woman who really believed in me and told me 'Omotoke why don't you read your books? This thing is easy. It's not that hard.”

The actress then praised her mother, saying; "Now today, I know I came last so many times those years but mummy today, I launched a perfume and I hope you're so proud of me."

In response, her mother said; "I thank God that my efforts were not in vain. It is well with you.”
