By Agboola Ibrahim

A Nigerian American identified as Remi Adeleke has recounted how his father who was the first possessor of Banana Island, Nigeria's equivalent of New York's Tribeca and Paris' Seventh Arrondissement died a few weeks after the Nigerian government seized his Island.

Banana Island, finished in 2000, is a billionaire's haven and the residence of the wealthiest families in the nation.

The original Banana Island construction project entitled Lagoon City was the brainchild of the late Chief Adebayo Adeleke, a University of London-trained Civil Engineer (MICE), and CEO of City Property Development Ltd.

Adeleke is the supposed owner of the island, but, a Nigerian-American recounted another version of the story of the Island. He claimed that his father was the first owner of the island until the Nigerian government unjustly took it away from him.

He narrated how his father left Nigeria in his late teens to study in the United Kingdom. After his Bachelors's and Master, he came back home with a lot of wealth, assets, and talents which he intended to establish a world trade.

He also mentioned how his father died a few weeks while fighting the Nigerian government in court to get back his island.

"my Dad left Nigeria in the his late teens to be educated in the west. After completing his bachelors and masters in the UK, he created multiple business in the west and generated more wealth than he could ever imagined. Dad brought all his talents and expertise back to Nigeria with the hopes of creating world trade. In 1987 the Nigeria government illegally and coruptly stole all my dad's asserts including his man made island that is now worth billions and was renamed Banana . while fighting the Nigerian government in court , he mysteriously died weeks later. we went from rich to poor."
