A Timeout in Sapele Courtesy Gavin Cracck

By Daraloye Emmanuel

The expansive Obule School Auditorium in Sapele (South South of Nigeria) was filled on December 24, 2021, as the second edition of the Southern Groove was held. When I got to the venue at about five in the evening, the DJ was on deck ditching out old school tunes and new tunes to put the fans in the right mood. The sound guy was putting finishing touches to the system while the artists which I later got to know were backstage prepping up for the show.

While the regular section had an enormous influx, the gold and silver section of the hall were not left behind in their bid to have the best time of their life.

From kukere master, Iyanya, down to Jay Willz, to the hilarious Aproko, Kenny Blaq, and others, it was a night that will always ignite fun and ecstasy in the mind of the attendees.

Rave of the moment, Jay Willz had a swell time as the fans sang his song verbatim, while some wanted to touch him, others brought out their phone to capture the epic moment.

The show promoter Gavin Cracck has never been a greenhorn when it comes to organizing shows. Right from when he was an undergraduate at Delta State Polytechnic, he has been renowned for bringing the biggest artists to campus. From Kizz Daniel, Erigga, Oritsefemi, and more.

Three years after he graduated from school, Gavin Cracck made a return in 2019 with the first edition of Southern Groove which had Dr. Dolor's signee, Teni, as the major artist. She was supported by the likes of Skiibii, Mc Edo Pikin, and many more.

Having reintroduced himself to the public via Push The Limits which had the input of rapper Vector the Viper in June 2020 and also the follow up single Motiri featuring Brickz in 2021, Gavin Cracck is mute on what he working on for 2022, however it seems he has a lot in stock judging by his resurgence and recent 12 bars Tuesday freestyle.

With the successful turn-up and excellent feedback from 2021 editions of Southern Groove attendees, the organizers look forward to bringing the top three African artists for their 2022 edition.
