It was a lucky escape for former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday as he survived a road mishap along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Obasanjo, it was gathered, was travelling to Lagos State to attend the 80th birthday of business mogul, Sir Kesington Adebutu, when one of the rear tyres of his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) burst.

The incident happened shortly after the former president a church service held in honour of his late wife, Chief (Mrs) Stella Obasanjo, in Abeokuta. An eyewitness told Sunday Telegraph that the mishap occurred few metres away from the Sagamu- Interchange along the highway. Obasanjo was said to have alighted from his vehicle to join another one in his convoy, after which he headed straight to Lagos.
