Bright Okpocha, a.k.a Basket Mouth, one of Nigeria's brightest comedians who only recently shelled out N100 million for a house in Lekki just few weeks after he spent a quarter of that amount on another property in Shomolu area of Lagos, may not know the new name with which he is better known now in the senate chambers. He may not know that among some senators, especially those that are very close to Senator Uche Chukwumerije, his second name is now Expensive Basket Mouth. The distinguished senators, we learnt, changed the young man's name, though, without his consent, after an attempt to get him to crack one or two jokes for them as part of the events for a reception in honour of Chika (Yaga) Chukwumerije, who won for Nigeria and himself, a bronze medal in Takwando at the recently concluded Beijing Olympics failed. An associate of the senators who wanted to use the reception to tell Chika that Nigerians appreciated his effort at the Olympics linked them up with Basket Mouth, who incidentally is from Abia State, like the bronze medalist. However, the senators got the shock of their lives when the comedian through his business manager told them that the least he would collect as performance fee for 20 minutes was N1.5 million. The senators, all of who are millionaires in their own right, did not expect that the comedian would ask for as much as half a million.
