Rivers State High Court In Flames
A fire incident has been recorded at the premises of the Rivers State High Court in Degema area of the state.
The inferno happened shortly after the suspension of an industrial action embarked on by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
It was gathered that the inferno took place around 4:05 am on Monday, February 2, 2015 and reportedly affected four of the courthouses.
Confirming the incident, the Police spokesman in Rivers State, Ahmad Mohammad said those responsible for the act are yet to be apprehended.
"The Rivers State Police Command wishes to confirm that in the early hours of Monday, 02/02/2015, coordinated attacks were launched on judiciary court premises at Degema, Isiokpo and Port Harcourt with explosive devices suspected to be dynamite by unidentified and unpatriotic assailants.
“Minimal damages were recorded in Port Harcourt and Isiokpo scenes without affecting the court building and documents, while at Degema, the court building was razed down and documents burnt. No lives were lost.
"The Command has already put in place efforts that will lead to the arrest of the actors and sponsors of the attacks while soliciting for the usual cooperation from members of the public to assist the police in this regard," Mohammad said.
