With the spread of indigenous rap, many young artistes have chosen their line of music to be indigenous. The likes of late Da'garin, Phyno, Olamide, Sheriki, Reminisce and so on, started the genre of music in Nigeria and many young talents who have seen the impact they have made in the music industry has followed that step.

Many people think these artistes go into this genre of music because they are not very well educated, while others have dismissed this reason and say indigenous rap is the easiest way to get to the grassroots.

However, one of Nigeria's most talented and successful rappers, Olamide has opened up on why he doesn't rap in English. When asked by City people magazine, he explained why he choose to rap in Yoruba.

He said “Se Ema San Wo Mi (will you pay me for that) (laughs). Like I have always said, if I want to listen to an English rap, I will rather buy a Jay Z CD, because “no Oyinbo wey una go speak for here for Naija wey go fit be like people wey get Oyinbo”. I still believe in indigenous hip-hip and I believe it is the future of Nigerian music”

After the death of late Yoruba rap artiste, Da'garin, Olamide came into limelight and since his debut single, he has not gone away from the top spot.
