Nollywoodgists.com has confirmed that an account of top Nollywood star, Jim Iyke, earlier operated by an impostor on popular photo sharing website, Instagram, has been taken down.

This information was made available to Nollywoodgists.com by the actor's media aide, Mitch Ngaman, in a statement. The action was taken by operators of Instagram after Jim Iyke made a formal complain to the platform informing them of alleged fraudulent activities being carried by the impostor.

It was learnt that the user of the fake account had been duping unsuspecting fans of the 'bay boy' actor, which was becoming embarrassing to him.

According to the statement, “In an email to the Nollywood star dated today 22 July 2014, an official of Intagram's Community Operations department confirmed the disabling of the fraudulent handle (@JimIykeOfficial) and apologized to him for the unpleasant experience saying: 'Safety is important to us'.”

The email sent to Jim Iyke by Instagram reads in part, “Thanks for bringing this account to our attention. We've removed the account or disabled access to it on Instagram.

“Safety is important to us, and we're sorry this happened to you. If you find another account that's pretending to be you, please report it to us.

“Again, we're sorry you had this experience on Instagram. Reports like yours help us keep Instagram safe,”

“With this development, fans of the actor can now follow his official Instagram handle @Jim.Iyke where they can safely interact with their idol without the fear of being extorted of cash or other valuables. Iyke, who is still mourning his late mum, had been inactive on social media until now, but has started populating his dormant Instagram page with materials in order to engage with his teaming fans,” Ngaman said in the statement.

Several Nigerian public figures have had to cry out regarding activities of impostors on social media platforms. Some months ago, the actor, through the help of security agents in Nigeria, arrested an impostor, who is currently serving a jail term.
