Mr. Samaila Vangawa, secretary of the Association of Movie Producers has called on the members of the association to use movie

storylines for better orientation of Nigerians.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Vangawa said “let's produce movies that are morally inclined, a movie that will educate people about our tourism, culture and the norms of the society. Movies that are educative to our children, movies that preach peace and togetherness. It is not just about the money. I believe if we have a very good sense of reasoning such things which I mentioned should be our area of concentration because movie production has come a long way.

In every home, people watch movies. In every society you go, there must be one or two names that the people are familiar with in the Nollywood industry because they watch such movies regularly. So, if we can actually produce morally-accepted movies, it will go a long way in reshaping our society.”

Nigerian movies are screened before they “pass through”

Vangawa added that the values held dear by the society should be promoted in movie production and that the association had its own gauntlet for ensuring that content produced by its members appealed to the movie viewers:”Movie production has its guide. There are movies that will not be allowed to pass through. A producer must have up to seven movies to his credit and are at present in the market. Such movies must be cleared by the Nigerian Films and Video Censors Board. Movies that contain pornography are checked, we make sure that they don't get to the society. The rule is that you must have movies in the market before you can be regarded as a movie producer.”

“Lack of access to fund” is the “major challenge” facing producers

The veteran producer said the major challenge facing producers is lack of access to fund, noting that film production requires huge amount of fund. (NAN)
