Barely 12 hours after Chelsea Football Club of England's 3-0 loss to Juventus last night in a Champions League game in turin, Italy, the club owner, Roman Abramovich has sacked the club manager, Roberto Di Matteo.

The announcement was made through a statement released by the club this morning. "Chelsea Football Club has parted company this morning with manager Roberto Di Matteo.

"The team's recent performances have not been good enough and the owner and the board felt that a change was necessary now to keep the club moving in the right direction as we head into a vitally important part of the season," the statement read.

Di Matteo's sack comes six months after winning the club's first Champions League trophy. He replaced Andre Villas-Boas who was sacked in March 2012. The Blues have failed to win any of their last four Premier League games, which has put them four points behind league leader Manchester City.

Already, there are speculation that former Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola might take over as manager of the London club. Former Liverpool coach, Rafael Benitez is also in the card.

Di Matteo won the Champions League and the FA Cup for Chelsea during his eight months tenure as the club's handler. He becomes the first top coach to lose his job. Before now, Liverpool's coach, Brendan Rodgers was tipped to be the first man to lose his job as manager.
