It is rather becoming alarming at the rate young Nigerian men marry white ladies, most especially those old enough to be their grandmothers. Few months ago, pictures went round on the internet of a young man believed to be in his 20's marrying a woman old believed to be enough to be his grandmother.

On Saturday, August 11, 2012, at the Ikeja Marriage Registry located inside Ikeja Local Government secretariat, Ikeja, Lagos, the young man in the above picture married his white lover.

Marriage of this sort is getting to be the order of the day. Some start this type of marriage as online dating.

According to a young man who pleaded anonymity, this form of new marriage between young Nigerian youth luring white ladies into marriage in Nigeria is aimed at travelling out of Nigeria to America or Europe in order to have stay of residency and work permit when they get to there.

We gathered that in most cases, the white ladies being married in Nigeria pay for the travelling bills. They easily get travel visas and residency papers after the marriage at the embassies in Nigeria.

We were told that these forms of marriage are done to seek greener pastures outside Nigeria in America or Europe.

One question that bothers some people is if this is the best way of escaping poverty?
