2FACE IDIBIA GETS NEW AWARD IN LONDON
AWARD-winning artiste, 2Face Idibia, added another feather to his cap on Wednesday night when he won the Best African Act at the 12th yearly Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards at the 02 Arena, Greenwich, South East London. However, Idibia, who was in the company of KoKo maestro, DBanj, watched in horror as his trophy dropped on the stage and was smashed in the process.
Despite that incident, Idibia can pride himself on being in the company of the likes of American hip hop artistes, Kanye West and Ne - Yo, who both won the same award for their efforts in both the Song and Hip Hop categories. Previous MOBO award winners include the legendary Kool and the Gang, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cents and George Benson.
Born as Innocent Ujah Idibia and formerly of the defunct R&B /hip hop group, Plantashun Boyz, 2Face rose to global fame with his hit song, African Queen, which won the first award given for Best African at the MTV Europe Awards held in Lisbon, Portugal in November 2005.
Besides, African Queen was the first ever video to be played on pan-African channel MTV Base and has also been featured as one of the soundtracks of a movie called Phat Girlz, among many others.
With his stock steadily rising, the multiple award-winning artiste has been pencilled down to perform at Nigeria's pre-independence day dance along Sir Shina Peters and others, at the Ocean Music venue in Hackney, on September 28, 2007.
