"She Put In The Work" - Joeboy Speaks On Tyla's Grammy Win
Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has expressed his admiration for South African star Tyla, following her Grammys win.
The Nigerian Voice recalls that the 68th Grammys award was held at the L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, with several artistes clinching awards in various categories.
Surprisingly, the Best African Music Performance category featuring Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love, and Tyla's Push 2 Start, saw South Africa's Tyla's 'Push 2 Start song emerge victorious amid stiff competition from her contemporaries.
Following the disapproval of many over Tyla's win, Joeboy in a now-viral interview with Jay On-Air, revealed that he wanted Afrobeats superstar Davido to win, however, Tyla's win was a deserved one.
He maintained that despite the criticisms, nothing can discredt her work, because she really put in the efforts.
He wrote:
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido to win the Best African Music
Performance category at the 2026 Grammys, but you can’t take it away
from Tyla. She is an amazing artist whether you accept it or not. She
really put in the work.
“People can be angry all they want but she deserved the Grammy win. I
can’t fault her triumph,”
