Rita Dominic Wraps ?Streets of Calabar?
Star actress Rita Dominic has just finished her first shoot of 2012. The movie titled Streets of Calabar is produced by UK based production company Spirit Creations. The movie was shot on location in London and Calabar and stars UK based actors Anthony Ofoegbu, Wale Ojo and Maynard Eziashi. The movie also features Nigerian veteran actor Keppy Ekpenyong. The film Streets of Calabar was written and co- directed by Charles Aniagolu.
?Streets? revolves around the main character, Chuks Oti, (Anthony Ofoegbu) and his complex mission to double cross a Nigerian mob boss. Unlike the average Nollywood movie, Calabar, which Aniagolu describes as a ?comedy -thriller,? was produced on a significantly higher budget and took months to shoot, using the latest high-definition cameras and state-of-the-art technology.?I wanted to make a well-written film against the backdrop of a Nigerian subculture, using a multiracial crew and cast, to international production standards, which would potentially be of interest to global distributors,? says British-Nigerian director Aniagolu.
Rita Dominic is set to have a massive year playing very strong and diverse roles in Carol Nguta?s Shattered, then in her own film The Meeting and now Streets of Calabar. In the drama Shattered, she immerses herself in the role of an abused Kenyan woman who starts to abuse drugs to numb the pain of abuse and neglect. Her portrayal of the character is both powerful and convincing. In The Meeting, she plays a cantankerous receptionist who works for a Federal Minister and easily fits into that role as well. The teasers for The Meeting and Shattered have been well received on Youtube. In a few days, she will be entering Izu Ojukwu?s set to shoot Lions of 76, a film set around the military coup of 1976.
