MEET POLITICKING NOLLYWOOD STARS

With the April general elections fast approaching, one would agree that political related issues have taken the front burner today in Nigeria. Preparations are in top gear and moving into even higher gear by the day with politicians and political parties employing various methods to woo the electorate. While some politicians have been employing people from the entertainment industry to join their campaign trains, other entertainers have joined the league of political players for the April 2007 race.

This week, NollywoodReel takes a look at movie personalities who have joined politicians, preparatory to the general elections.

*Femi Robinson: He has certainly paid his dues in the film industry. He was the one who played the role of headmaster in the now rested T.V. serial, Village Headmaster. Today, he's a role model to many upcoming actors in Nigeria. At present, he is the deputy publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.

*Zack Orji: Zack is also a foremost and talented actor in Nollywood. He has been in the industry for quite a while and despite the fact that he is advancing in age, he is still as relevant as ever. Zack is currently the publicity secretary of the campaign organisation of PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Umar Musa Yar'Adua.

*Rotimi Makinde: He is one of the brilliant Yoruba actors. After years of great exploits and achievements in the make-believe industry, he has decided to pitch his tent in the political arena. He is currently vying for the post of a lawmaker in his home town, Osun State, under the umbrella of Action Congress.

*Ronnie Dikko: An outstanding actress of her time, Ronnie, who is also a role model to many aspiring actresses is currently in the campaign train of PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State, Musiliu Obanikoro.

*Saheed Balogun: Without mincing words, Saheed is one of the very good actors that dominate the Yoruba movie industry right now. The light complexioned actor is a member of Remi Adiukwu-Bakare's campaign organisation.

*Clement Ohameze: 'Oga Clem' as he is fondly called, needs no introduction in the movie terrain. As fans and colleagues count his achievements in Nollywood, he has added something to his curriculum vitae by contesting for a seat in the Imo State House of Assembly.

*Hilda Dokubo: She is another versatile actress whose contributions to the growth of Nollywood cannot be underestimated. Having contributed immensely to the growth of the movie industry, Hilda is now the Special Assistant to the Rivers State governor, Peter Odili.

*Jide Kosoko: The embattled president of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), Jide Kosoko, recently contributed to the campaigns of Lagos State Action Congress governorship candidate, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

*Paul Obazele: A talented actor of note, he is also in the Umar Yar'Adua campaign train for next month's general elections.
