Veteran comic actress, Mrs. Aduke George popularly known as Iya Sala, died in the early hours of Saturday at her Ikara, Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State home at the age of 69.

NollywoodReel gathered that her death may not be unconnected to the fact that she was neglected and had nobody to assist her financially.

She was said to have gone through severe pains and particularly had sight problem before giving up the battle to death at about 3 a.m. on Saturday.

She died after complaining of pains all over her body earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, the succour she had spent years waiting for, according to sources, would have come her way in a couple of weeks as the Federal Government has concluded plans to honour her as an unsung heroine in Abuja.

NollywoodReel further gathered that for a while, the representatives of the Federal Government had been on the look out for her only to later find out that she was almost blind and she died few days later.

However, the award will still be given to her posthumously.

Explaining how Iya Sala died, one of her aides, Mrs. Adebusola, said “when she complained of the pain, we gave her medication, but she eventually died in the early hours of Saturday.”

Mrs. Adebusola further stated that burial arrangement will be officially released in January, 2011.

“The problem with her sight started last year when she lost her only child, Bunmi. She cried so much and ever since, she's been having sight problem,” Mrs. Adebusola added.

The late Iya Sala was among the veterans that popularised stage acting and comedy in the 1980s and early 1990s in Nigeria.
