LETS TALK ABOUT SEX AFRICA

Source: Joy Della Ocloo/Nollywoodgists.com

Lets talk about sex. I am making this an interactive forum. Shirley Frimpong Manso and Leila Djansi have been receiving some flak for saying they like sex in movies but it must be well done.NUDITY AND SEX SELLS--Leila Djansi (Africa Academy-nominated writer/director)

This level of hypocrisy must stop. the person who says he/she does not enjoy a little "action" in movies should cast the first stone. If you turned off your TV at the sex scene in Titanic, the cast the first stone.

let Kate Winslet, who has bared it all in Tintanic, The Reader, Little Children and many more be shot dead and sent to hell on the first bus out. Like it or not, we all have sex, or will have sex and we all will enjoy it and so what we are seeing on screen is just what we do as a part of life.

sex sex sex sex sex sex. Hypocrites screaming about sex in movies. You have not complained about violence in movies. or the witchcraft or all the rituals in movies. You are complaining about sex. I shock for you people.

Award winning movies like Monsters Ball, movies from masters like Bernado Bertoluccis "Last Tango in Paris" all have had sex in them. Are we talking about Angelina Jolie and origina sin? Even Zack orji and Eucharia Anuobi had a steamy bathtub scene in a movie which title i forgot.

Shirley said the scenes must be tastefully done, Leila said this is just the beginning. Both pioneer women are right. That is why you have a film rating system. It is not suitable for children but for adults. Please, some of us want to watch nice love scenes in a cozy room with our significant others. It helps the moment. if you don't want, don't pour sand in our gari.

Sex scenes are nice if they are done right. Not all of us can watch porn, but we can accommodate well made sex scenes in proper movies.

So what if the actors were told to get comfortable with each other? How can a movie achieve proper chemistry if the actors are not comfortable with each other or with what they are doing? Alcohol on set is very common. Acting with snakes, lions, other dangerous elements, in the snow and all that, alcohol becomes essential because you want to feel warm or loosen up.

Some of us put on this innocent faces, are quick to condemn and yet the things we do inside our bedrooms are better left unsaid. Men who pretend to be holy and when they marry, they tell their wives they enjoy doing it through the ass hole. This level of naivety must stop. I am sure some forumites will come here to say that the movies I have mentioned are foreign. Please, we have adopted every single foreign culture. From clothes, to manners of speaking to copying their TV shows. Don't discriminate when it comes to sex.

where in Ghana or Nigeria have you seen people shoot each other on the street in the daytime? But is that not what our movies have copied from the west?

There is nothing wrong with having sex in movies. It must be done in context of the movie It is as simple as that. the censors board will determine whether to rate is above 18 or R. then you regulate what your children watch.

before I conclude and open floor, are we not African who grew up in one bed room homes where our parents sleep on the bed and we sleep on the floor? Have we not seen our parents have sex under such situations? I watched a movie with Nkiru Sylvanous in it where this happened. Annabel is the movie title. So why are we pretending that sex is not an open part of our culture? In Ghana, among the Krobo, we have Dipo rites where half naked girls dance around. same thing in south Africa. During puberty rites for girls, older women teach them how to have sex.

In former Britain, among the royal family, when the prince or King marries, his first night with his new wife is witnessed by elders of the kings court. they all stand there and watch the King have sex with his wife for the first time. Same thing happens in Nigeria. The family wait outside whiles the couple go in to have sex.

Therefore, why are we making sex like a taboo or a sacred institution? We do this so much so that, there are women out there who cannot talk to their husbands about their sex life. Sex is supposed to be enjoyed by both men and women, but women have a gag order on them! They just lay there and take, they can't even express themselves to their partners for fear of being called promiscuous. men have instituted things like female circumcision, another bid to gag society about sex. men sleeping with little children because sex is not an open topic. You people need to mature.
