WUNMI`S COCAINE STORY,A SAD ONE -NOLLYWOOD STARS REACTED

This is not the best of times for Nollywood star, Hassanat Akinwande Taiwo, (popularly called Yetunde Wunmi) who is currently being held over alleged drug trafficking. The fair complexioned actress was apprehended by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, penultimate Saturday as she was about to board a Virgin Atlantic plane at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos to London.

As a professional, Wunmi, who shot into limelight in 1980, reportedly excreted many wraps of cocaine she earlier swallowed. As at the time of filing this report, sources said the actress had excreted 92 wraps of cocaine (condom-size) and was still excreting more.

However, fellow Nollywood artistes have reacted to the illegal act. While some were evasive in their response ,others sympathized with the single mother. Their reasons were hinged upon the consideration that the soft-spoken actress had only engaged in the illicit act for the first time.

Babatunde Omidina, ANTP Treasurer (Baba Suwe)
Well, there is no cause for alarm. She has never done it before. She did it for the first time, according to her, and it turned the other way round. Definitely, there is nobody that will be happy with something of this nature. But as an association, a step has to be taken and we have done that.

Muftau Olaniyi Oladehinde (Alaran)
Well, what will be will be. It is rather unfortunate she got involved in such a mess. Let them try her. Of course, she needs not struggle with them (NDLEA). Those calling artistes drug peddlers should either desist from such or name those they know are involved. They should not blackmail us. If they are saying Baba Suwe was arrested, how long did he stay in the prison? It is the Press that is even fuelling the blackmail on we artistes. So, let me confirm it to you now, we artistes are not drug peddlers. We are only victims of blackmail and if a person is bad in a group, it does not mean that all the members of the group are bad.

Adewale Elesho
My reaction? Ah, eeh! Who are those that you have spoken to among artistes? Please don't bother to ask me. You see, we have an association. You can go to Jide Kosoko and other elders. If you could speak to those people, you will surely have details.

Monsurat Omidina (Omoladun)
I was very sad when I got the bad news. We had never experienced anything of such in the industry before. Had it been something that has been occurring before, it wouldn't have been shocking. She has also been crying that she had never done it before. No one is happy about it.

Akin Olaiya
I'm very sorry. I don't know what the whole issue is about. I don't even know anything about Wunmi or no Wunmi. You know, I am based in Ibadan. Please, don't get me wrong. Anything could have happened on set or location. That is all I can say because that is all I know. I am sincerely sorry.

Latunde (films):
With what I heard about her so far, I'm sick. I'm yet to recover really. For now, I don't know what to say. I still find it difficult to believe the story. I know Wunmi very well. She is somebody who does not crave inappropriate riches. She does not seek elegant of any kind. If you know her very well, she is cool. Immediately I heard the news, my wife and I wept profusely. It is sordid. May Allah intervene and rescue her from the mess. Sin is sin and no thanks to pushers of cocaine.

Ronke Ojo (Oshodi Oke):
I was surprised. But I still don't believe Wunmi could push hard drug. We just heard one part of the story. We don't know the facts about the story. It is a bad revelation.

Muftau Sanusi (Ajigijaga):
I have heard about it. I can't deny it. But it was not detailed. It is unfortunate. Vanity upon vanity…Wunmi is somebody who has shown some sense of responsibility. What she has caused herself in the moment is pitiable. But the reality is that when it comes to criminal offences as regards fortune, no one is clean. The fact that she appears responsible or holy does not mean she can't do it. There may be some overstatement or exaggeration really. I don't trust human beings. They are at times unpredictable. I believe all of us in the industry must be contended with what profit we make as little it may be. I can't traffic drug. Now, it has happened. She is still one of us; we pray she come out safely.

Segun 'Remi(Kanran):
I heard about it and I was shocked. I don't know what to say. She is somebody I know very well. And we should mind what we say in matters like this. Let us hear more facts from her captives.

Henrietta Kosoko
Well, with the little I know about her, it is crazy to conclude now that she committed the crime. She herself knows the consequences. So, why must she have been so gullible to have been tempted.

Bisi Ibidapo
I have phobia for journalists. I don't want to be enlisted in this your discussion. And I don't want to put myself into any problem please. I am at my peak moment. Lets leave Wunmi out of the issue and talk something else. I think you can understand. I hardly talk, let alone comment on sensitive and crucial issues like this.
