Nigerian singer Augustine Kelechi, popularly known as Tekno, has shared his perspective on how love and relationships have evolved since the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with Cool FM Lagos, he expressed his belief that the lockdown period in 2020 caused many people to grow tired of their partners after spending extended time together.

Tekno suggested that prolonged closeness may have led individuals to question the depth of their feelings, resulting in a general fatigue toward love. He also claimed that marriages have become less stable and infidelity has increased since then. He noted that absence helps one appreciate presence, and without that, love loses its value.

The singer also observed a shift in the entertainment industry, noting that movies no longer center on love the way they used to, but now seem driven by clout rather than genuine storytelling.

He said:
"I think since after 2020, love is not the same. I think during the lockdown people got to spend time with their lovers and realised 'maybe I didn't love this person as much as I think.' I think we just grew fatigued of the ones we thought we loved the most.

"If you can't appreciate the absence then the presence doesn't really matter. So, I feel like since 2020, people have leaned into not wanting to love as much. Marriages don't work. You have some of our legends' wives being chopped by young boys.

"There was a time when love was a thing, even our movies revolve around love. But now movies are just clout. It doesn't feel organic."
