Actress Basira Beere Opens Up On Physical Abuse In Previous Marriage
Nollywood actress Omoshalewa Yusuf, best known as Basira Beere, has made a jarring revelation about her previous marriage, disclosing that she suffered physical abuse severally.
Speaking in a recent episode of the Talk to B podcast, hosted by her colleague, Biola Bayo, Basira Beere stated that she funded a large part of her wedding with her now ex-husband, despite the warnings she received from friends about getting married to him.
According to her, days after their wedding, he stumbled upon a congratulatory message sent to her from a male, which led to the beginning of physical and domestic violence in their marriage.
Basira stressed that the constant assualts she suffered made her lose four pregnancies, blaming her parents for urging her to remain in the marriage despite the beatings.
She said:
"When I was about to get married to him, my friends complained that he was of a lower calibre than me, but I told them that I also came from nothing before fame. I sponsored about 70% of our wedding ceremony. I thought I was supporting my man.
“His problem started two days after our wedding. Days after the wedding, a guy texted me to congratulate me on the wedding, and I called him ‘dear,’ and that was when the problem started. It was so tough; he beat me so much that even our landlord tried to intervene.
"If I explained what happened to my parents, they kept telling me to be patient and endure. Only my siblings who were living with me could attest to what I went through. He beat me over little things to the point that I lost about four pregnancies. During the last fight we had, I was covered in blood. In fact, Gistlover posted about it. I don’t know who leaked it to them."
