By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has berated the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, over lack of royalties structure.

The movie star made the disclosure in a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator, Bae U Barbie. She asserted that the reason behind actors coming out to appeal for financial assistance from the public is due to a lack of royalties structure in the Nigerian movie industry.

She explained that actors only receive payment for their role in the movie once, no matter how much the movie keeps making.

Ozokwor also cited an instance of other movie industries In developed countries, noting how they consistently earn financial renumeration from their roles in any movie, adding that such finances help their family, in cases of the actor's death.

Mama G also stressed that lack of a sustainable structure has led to the increase in YouTube channels, as actors need to constantly make profits to survive.

"The problem why you see us beg is because they don’t give us royalties. We just work and toil so hard, and then that peanut, that money you gave us on board to come and shoot for you, is the only thing we get."

“Go and look at the smallest actors in developed countries. Every work they do fetches them money every day of their lives.

"Even when they are gone, their families still live on that. We, we are still working hard.”

"That’s why everyone is running to YouTube."
