BEING A PUBLIC WOMAN IN NIGERIA MEANS BEING A PROSTITUTE - ONWENU
A woman is intuitive. She sees and hears things a man cannot” That was the view of the lady of songs, Onyeka Onwenu in an encounter with Showbiz.
“She has a language much like the elephants that communicate in groans that humans do not hear. She is the nurturer, she can even nurture herself. She is creative, adaptive and gives life to things. A woman is a child of God. Infact, we are God's lovers, it is with that plaintive moan that we reach Him.”
Continuing she said, “Being a public woman in Nigeria means being a 'prostitute', it reflects in the way women are mostly treated.
“You see, prostitution is that dirty word that people use on women to discourage their participation in politics and to stop them from seeking to have their voices heard. There is a dread about a woman who wants to succeed in public life.
But many people don't know that an achieving woman is branded, aggressive, pushy and a man hater. What they are really saying is that you should stay down when pushed down, you remain where they put you, you don't leave the box”, she said.
