Papa Ajasco Actor Bemoans Poverty, Shares Challenges With Character

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has opened up on his financial struggles, despite being well-known for playing the popular Papa Ajasco character.

The veteran star made the disclosure in a now-viral interview with media personality, Lucky Udu, revealing that the character was trademarked by Wale Adenuga production company.

According to him, there have been several proposals and offers of advertisements, however, the trademark is preventing him from using it outside the role without prior permission.

Ayoyinka further stressed that his embodying of the character is also a hindrance to him. He stated that the public have identified him with the Papa Ajasco character, and it is difficult for him to do anything outside the character.

He also shared how before retirement, he worked with the Lagos State Government in the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Ayoyinka maintained that life has not been comfortable for him, adding that he has no house or car.

“Because that character is very strong, they want to see me as Papa, dress like Papa, look like Papa. It is always difficult for me to do it.”

“The major problem is that particular character has been registered by Wale Adenuga. Anybody that wants to use me outside wants me with the character, with everything that I have, but it has never been easy for me,

I don’t have the right. I can’t use the name Papa Ajasco unless I go and take permission. I can’t even use the costume,

“Things have never been okay for years now. I retired five years ago, and it has never been easy for me to move around and connect with people

I’m always thinking every day. Look at my home—I don’t have my own house. I don’t have a car.”
