By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, has been issued a strong warning over her street cooking and charitable activities by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

On the popular microblogging platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), Tokunbo Wahab penned an open letter to the actress, revealing that he has been informed of her cooking and food distribution on the streets of Lagos.

"Dear @officialsarahmartins
I hope you are well. My attention has been drawn to your recent activity of cooking and distributing food on the streets of Lagos."

He acknowledged and appreciated her motive behind the charitable action, but stated that carrying out of the act on public roads and walkways is prohibited by the law on environmental regulations. According to him, once such acts are carried out in public spaces, it can lead to safety, sanitation and traffic concerns.

"While we acknowledge and appreciate the spirit of charity and compassion behind what you are trying to do, carrying out such activities on public roads, walkways or medians is not permitted under Lagos environmental and public order regulations. Cooking or trading on public infrastructure poses safety, sanitation and traffic concerns."

Noting how she was previously cautioned about the act last year, he advised her against continuing the action in order to avoid apprehension and prosecution.

"You were previously cautioned about this same issue last year due to the understanding of it’s philanthropic intention and pleas. I would strongly advise that you desist from carrying out street cooking or similar activities in public spaces in Lagos in order to avoid apprehension and prosecution."

He also advised her to prioritize going through the appropriate and legal channels if she wants to keep carrying out the act.

"If you wish to continue your charitable outreach, it should be done through proper channels and in approved locations so that your efforts can support vulnerable people without violating existing laws and constituting environmental nuisance.

We expect everyone to be law-abiding in Lagos, just as they would be in any other well-regulated city.

Thank you for your understanding.
Tokunbo Wahab."
The Nigerian Voice recalls that in November 2025, Sarah Martins, via her Instagram page, shared a video of her bruised hand, stating that her heart aches.

She revealed that while she was carrying out her charitable work for the struggling people in the streets of Lagos, as usual, she was assaulted by uniformed men.

Visibly upset, the actress claimed that the uniformed men took away everything she was using to make free food.
