"You Guys Do Nothing, But Gatekeep To Stay In The Spotlight" – Daniel Regha Calls Out Igbo Artistes

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Social media critic and celebrity tormentor, Daniel Regha, has called out Igbo Artistes across the country over their lack of efforts in giving back to the South East musically.

On the popular microblogging platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), he cited the example of how Tiwa Savage and Adekunle Gold are giving back to the society, adding that Olamide has been consistently grooming several artistes to achieve stardom.

Hitting at his fellow tribesmen, he pointed out the influx of underground artistes in the South East, who have no support whatsoever. He accused the rappers and singers who have already gained stardom of refusing to help others grow, maintaining that their collaborations are determined by hits or connections.

Regha emphasized the effect of such act, asserting that greed is the order of the day, and is hindering the positioning of Igbo culture on the global stage.

He wrote:
"Igbo artistes, have u seen what the likes of Tiwa Savage and Adekunle Gold are doing with their platforms? Don't u see how the likes of Olamide are championing the next generation of artistes. What is your excuse? AG has a foundation that benefits sickle cell patients which is a big impact.

Now when it comes to music the South East is full of talented underground artistes, both rappers and singers, u guys do nothing but gatekeep to stay in the spotlight, barely helping the unknown grow. Collaborations are based on hits or connections, initiatives of any kind barely in existence, and no reasonable record labels from the SE that's putting in the work or taking a serious chance on newbies.

U want Igbo culture to thrive musically on the global stage, yet let greed get in the way. When ur time is up in the industry, who then takes up the mantle? Better wake up."
