68th Grammys: Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Omah Lay And Ayra Starr Lose Out On Best African Music Performance
The 68th Grammys awards took centre stage on Sunday, February 1st, 2026, at the L.A.’s Crypto.com Arena, which saw a plethora of artistes clinch the globally recognized award in several categories.
Surprisingly, in the Best African Music Performance category, Nigerian stars: Davido, Omah Lay, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Ayra Starr, lost to South Africa's Tyla.
The Best African Music Performance category featured Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love, and Tyla's Push 2 Start.
The category was eventually won by Tyla's 'Push 2 Start song amid stiff competition from her contemporaries.
Tyla's win comes as a surprise to many Nigerians, who had been placing Afrobeats star Davido, as the clear favourite to clinch his first Grammys award.
