‎"No Song On That List Has More Cultural Impact Than 'This Year'" - Jayowon Reacts To Song's Exclusion From Billboard Afrobeats Songs Of All-Time List

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, popularly known as Jaywon, has bemoaned the exclusion of his 2012 hit song 'This Year' from Billboard's Afrobeats songs of All-time list.

The singer stressed that his song has been a blueprint for many gospel and Afrobeats artistes, as they have been emulating the template of 'This Year.'

Expressing his disdain at his exclusion from the list on the popular microblogging platform, X formerly known as Twitter, the singer emphasized that there is no song on that list that has more cultural impact than his 2012 hit song 'This Year.'

He wrote:
"This Year’ by Jaywon had more viral moments and cultural impact than some tracks Billboard decided to rank.”

“Trending since 2012 and still going strong. Tell me, who else has pulled that off? ‍♂️ Hate is inevitable. Year after year, both gospel and Afrobeats acts copy the same vibe, yet we remain unshaken. Cry harder, I said it before, and I’ll say it again…. No song on that list has more cultural impact than #Thisyear by Jaywon!!”
