Tiwa Savage Bemoans Age-Shaming Over Her Fashion Style

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Popular Nigerian singer and Queen of Afrobeats, Tiwa Savage, has bemoaned how Nigerians subject her to age-shaming over her fashion style.

The mother of one made this known in a recent episode of the 'Receipts’ podcast. She noted how many Nigerians criticize her for wearing some dresses, and point out her age.

According to the singer, American singer Beyonce is in her 40s just like herself, and she puts on bikinis, yet Americans do not age-shame her. She noted how many Nigerians are always criticizing her dressing, and reminding her that her son would grow up to see those pictures on social media.

Tiwa Savage, however, stressed that contrary to the public view about her dressing, her son would grow up to see her as a powerful and beautiful woman.

Tiwa Savage said:
"They age-shame me every single day. They say, a woman of you age, how can you be wearing a bikini? I can because I have a body.

“Beyoncé is in her 40s and wears bikinis but Americans don’t age shame her. They would be like, for her age, black don’t crack. It’s more celebrated when you look good in your older age.

“But they [Nigerians], always throw these things like, when her son grows up, he’s going to see this. My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and beautiful woman.”
