Joeboy Downplays Grammy Awards, Clamours For Africans To Support Their Awards
Popular Nigerian singer, Joseph Akinwale, best known as Joeboy has made a comment concerning the prestigious Grammy awards.
Joeboy, who was in an interview with 3Music TV, advised African Artistes to mellow down on the drive to win the Grammy award, and instead start showing support for local or regional awards, as he claimed that Grammy is for Americans.
The singer believes that Africans should invest more in their own awards, rather than waiting for recognition from foreign countries.
He said;
“I think we should unapologetically be ourselves and also empower our institutions here in Africa.
But we make it look like it is the biggest award an African artiste can ever get. Why don’t we show up for our awards and plan it properly?
If they do not show up for their awards, it won’t be as great as it is now. I know there is money to be made there but we need to return home and invest.
At the end of the day, we will all have to come back. So it is all about making sure our infrastructure and institutions are growing.”
