I was nervous during a performance at King Charles III’s coronation- Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian talented singer and the first female Nigerian singer to win an MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act has disclosed the emotional distress she underwent during the performance of the British King's coronation.

The historic coronation ceremony was held on May 6, 2023, while the concert played out on May 7, 2023.

Besides being one of the few African artistes that performed at the historic event, Tiwa Savage happened to be the first Nigerian artiste to have received an invitation to perform at a foreign royal coronation ceremony.

Significantly, the coronation ceremony was an official installation of King Charles III to ascend to the throne. The ceremony happened after Queen Elizabeth died on September 8 2023 at Balmoral Castle, United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth died at 96 after she reigned for 70 years

Tiwa Savage who was applauded for delivering a top-notch performance after the ceremony recounted how she developed cold feet and battled with anxiety during the performance.

Although she asserted that it was indeed an amazing moment to represent the commonwealth, her performance was coated with anxiety. She further stated that in a little while during the performance she braced herself and got rid of her anxiety and eventually gave a worthwhile performance.

“It was beautiful [to perform for the King]. It was such an amazing moment to represent the Commonwealth and to be on that stage.

“I was nervous, I will say the first few seconds. But as soon as I started singing, I said, ‘I have to just get swept away by the crowd’.” She said.
