Mayor Of Southern Mexico Officially Weds A Crocodile

Victor Hugo Sosa, the mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, a town in southern Mexico has officially wedded a crocodile known to be a princes girl.

The reptile, the princes girl, also named Alicia Adriana according to tradition is a symbol of peace for the Chontal tribe and the Huave.

The practice of wedding a reptile by a Mayor has been operational for 230 years according to the report. Wedding a reptile according to the tradition is said to bring fortune to the land and blesses the earth.

Victor Hugo, the present Mayor of Chontal wedded the reptile according to traditional procedure. The traditional rituals were duly observed. It was reported that, before the wedding ceremony, the Mayor and reptiles danced in the village square.

Besides the fortune the reptile is expected to bring, it is also believed that the wedding of the reptile is a commemoration of peace between the Chontal and the Huave indigenous groups.

In a statement by the Mayor, he expressed his love for the reptile, the prince's girl.

: “I accept responsibility because we love each other. That is what is important. You can’t have a marriage without love… I yield to marriage with the princess girl.” the Mayor said.

Jaime Zarate, chronicler of San Pedro Huamelula, explained that : “The wedding allows the sides to link with what is the emblem of Mother Earth, asking the all-powerful for rain, the germination of the seed, all those things that are peace and harmony for the Chontal man.”
