Minister assures on infrastructure to boost economy

Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. John Odey says the present administration is committed to providing adequate and quality infrastructure towards boosting the country's economy.
He stated this on Monday at the opening of 'Shoot 2008' and the commissioning of a still photo laboratory complex and other facilities at the National Film Institute, Jos, noting that a transformation of the economy would make life better for Nigerians.

The minister noted that the growth of any economy was tied to the provision of adequate infrastructure which explains why the administration was concentrating on this area.

He said the movie industry in the country was witnessing monumental changes and was serving as a source of employment for thousands of young Nigerians and entrepreneurs thereby contributing to national economy.

He assured of government's continued assistance to agencies like the Nigerian Film Corporation and its subsidiary the National Film Institute towards making the film industry grow better through improved funding to maintain facilities and complete on-going projects.

Odey stressed the need to standardize the quality of films produced in the country to give them international appeal and challenged practitioners to maintain high ethical standards and do what is right if Nigerian films would be shown at international fora.

Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State in a message delivered by his deputy, Mrs. Pauline Tallen said the state would continue to support any initiative for promoting the country's film and television industry.

He urged the Federal Ministry of Information and Communications to prevail on states planning to build film cities to team up with the state to build a mega film city in Jos which would be a pride to the country and the African continent.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation, Mr. Afolabi Adesanya stressed the need to standardize the film industry in the country to give the country a global competitive edge, guarantee jobs and create new employment.
