Bella Shmurda Resents Record Label, Had Paid 20m To Be Independent

By Agboola Ibrahim

Nigerian singer, Akinbiyi Abiola Ahmed aka Bella Shmurda has openly resented his former record label, One World Global Records when he disclosed that he paid huge amount of money to become independent.

In an interview, Bella disclosed his disgust with the mode of operation of his former record label. He disclosed that he paid N20 million to the management of his former label in order for him to become an independent artist after spending just a year out of his 3-year contract.

Speaking on the Tea with Taymesan podcast, he explained that he would source for N500k as requested by the label and they in turn would bring N500k for production, promotion, and other things that need funding.

However, when money starts coming from shows, streaming, endorsement, and other areas, they would take 70 percent and give him 30 percent.

Bella said he was not comfortable with that arrangement so he hired a lawyer and bought himself out of One World Global Records.

His statement read partly: "It is more like a support; they are not just doing that label thing. It just like I want to shoot video, label drop 500k and I drop 500k; then that is not a label, it is more like a partnership. At a point I was like, I go drop 500k and you go drop500k an d if money come you go take larger share... After a year I got a lawyer, I cleared myself and I paid 20m .."
