The recent church tragedy that claimed few lives while leaving many injured at Reigners Church, in Akwa Ibom state, some weeks back has forced Nollywood actress, Ini Edo to announce the cancellation of the Akwa Ibom festival.

The actress who is part of the planning committee, made the announcement recently stating that it was a way of mourning those who passed away and also allow the state recover from the shock.

She noted that the event tagged ‘Ibom Fest’ will still take place but did not communicate the new date as she promise to make it known as soon as they come to a conclusion.

According to her, “This is to inform the general public that the Akwa Ibom Heritage Festival (ibomfest) earlier organised to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom State has been postponed. This is to honour the casualties arising from the tragic building collapse of The Reigners Bible Church International which has thrown the state into mourning. A new date for the festival will be made public.”
